Aimed at the high-end market, the original Europe-only model adds a Zorro II backplane, implemented in programmable logic, to the custom Amiga chipset used in the Amiga 1000. Later improved models have redesigned hardware using the more highly integrated A500 chipset, with the addition of a gate-array called " Buster ", which integrates the Zorro subsystem . Hello, I am new to this forum. I recently got back into the Amiga computer. I own a 500,1000,2000. I wanted to hook a hard drive to the 500, so I built the Zorro adapter board (On copper) I hooked a Buddha controller to it and does work.

The DE0 Nano has a 32MB ISSI SDRAM on-board which is presented to the Amiga as a full 32MB in the Zorro 3 address space (we are not constrained by the 24-bit address bus of the real 68000). The presence of the fast memory really speeds things up, and you can see in the screenshots just how well the current prototype is working. The Amiga 3000 and 4000 lines use Super Buster for bus control and arbitration of both Zorro II and Zorro III subsystems. Super Buster's development was never really finished, so there are various levels of compatibility. All revision Super Buster are pin-compatible and can be upgraded. The Zorro III bus has a theoretical bandwidth of 150 MByte/s, based on an ideal Zorro III master and slave device running with minimum setup and hold times. The real transfer speed between the Amiga 3000/4000 implementation of Zorro III and a Zorro III card is somewhere around 13.5 MByte/s due to the limitations of the Buster chip. This connector is electronically identical with the Amiga 1000's, but swapped on the other side. The Amiga 500 has a "trap-door" slot on the underside for a RAM upgrade (typically of 512 KiB). This extra RAM is classified as "fast" RAM, but is sometimes referred to as "slow" RAM: due to the design of the expansion bus, it is actually on the chipset bus.
